Our Values & Approach
We believe in the power of self-discovery, growth and the ability to co-exist in a fulfilling and meaningful life. This is at the core by respecting and embracing an individual with empathy and genuine care.
Understanding that at our core we all have the ability to heal, grow and experience alignment in our lives and within our communities. The includes the belief that participant is the expert on themselves and our services facilitate awareness and validation of strength in self and connection with others, nature and our shared planet.
Therapeutic Approaches:
Person-centered Therapy
Acceptance Commitment Therapy
Narrative Therapy
Solutions-focused Therapy
Amongst these approaches include a core understanding of the social, structural and intergenerational realities such as living in a heteronormative society based in capitalism that inform and impact our health and well-being. This is key to why we work compassionately, non-judgementally and non-pathologizing.
Our Approach
Our Values
Empathy – We believe in human-centered therapy where you are seen as a whole person with inherent strengths, skills, and complex experiences that deserve validation.
Collaboration – Your therapeutic journey is personalized and co-created, where we’ll work together to tailor your sessions to your experiences, needs, and values.
Justice – We are dedicated to continuous awareness of how power dynamics, intersectionality, and the socio-political context of healing show up in our sessions together. We recognize the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization, and are completely committed to transparency, authenticity, and learning in building our relationship together.
Land Acknowledgement & Truth & Reconciliation
It's key that we also acknowledge the unceded and stolen lands where this practice operates from. The lands of the Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat, Mississaugas of the Credit covered by Treaty 13 signed in 1805. In learning that generations of litigation has been needed to address failures of the crown to uphold the original land purchase agreement where more land than agreed to was taken. Not until 2010 has a settlement been made with the Mississaugas of the Credit (Ref. Canadian Encyclopedia). We commit towards relearning history of Canada and contribute to supporting Indigenous artists, businesses and cultural knowledge holders.
Being a practice of uninvited settlers, we believe in our individual and collective responsibility to promote and take action to be part of addressing the intergenerational, historical and ongoing harms by Canada and the Crown. The 94 Calls to Action created by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2015) identify a clear process of action needed. One of the areas is on Health (23.iii) that requires ‘all levels of government provide cultural competent training for health providers’ While this is one of many calls unmet, it is one specific area that providers can invest and prioritize within their practice to decolonize and be partners in reconciliation.
Statement - Ongoing Injustices
As a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). We are responsible to uphold the ethical code on justice which means to ‘stand against oppression and discrimination’. As a regulatory body, they continue to stay silent instead of addressing the ongoing harms experienced by Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island and around the world. They also uphold standards of practice and a medical system that continues to discriminate, criminalize and harm Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. This reality requires the individual responsibility of members within the college to mitigate these wrongs within our direct work with the public and the systems we work in. As a member of the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), we acknowledge their prioritization of reciprocal relationships with Indigenous knowledge holders who support efforts to reduce harm and share knowledge with it’s membership.
